The Biomedical research Group (BMRG) of BIRDEM (the central institute of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh), mainly in collaboration with the Research Department of Human Nutrition of The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Copenhagen, Denmark, have generated considerable volume of data on chemical, biological and sociocultural aspects of nutrition, as relevant to Bangladeshi race and society, with particular focus on diabetes and other disorders related to metabolic syndrome. The main goal of the present project is to translate the research findings (as well as reliable findings from other sources) to promotional tools and strategies for improving the nutritional knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of the population in general and of the diabetic population in particular. These promotional activities will be further enriched and expanded (through a Promotional Team) by continued generation of new data with the ongoing focused activities of BMRG (a Chemical-Biological Team and a Sociocultural Team will work on relevant areas). The project will be implemented under the umbrella of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh and pilot studies, aimed to assess the impact of the project, will be done within the Health Care Development Project of DAB. As its outcome, the project is expected to create a significant impact an KAP of lay people, professional and policy makers in various aspects of nutrition.
